Is It Blasphemy To Ask If Jesus Was Married?

September 30th, 2008 |

Arnold Ahlstrom asked:

The commandment of God from the very beginning was that a man should leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh. (Gen 2:24).

It would not make sense if Jesus were to break his own commandment, unless there is any evidence to be found that marriage is a “necessary dirty” instituted to keep man from going all wild. The Messiah would not have to obey that kind of commandment.

But there is nothing in the scriptures that portrays marriage as anything but a holy order of God. We still call it “Holy Matrimony” today.

Neither do we find any example of Jesus breaking the laws that he himself gave in the Old Testament times, when he was known as Jehovah.

He was accused of breaking the commandments, but it could always be understood in the light of him breaking a lesser commandment in order to following a higher law.

In a National Geographic program there was a Catholic padre of the sect Opus Dei who emphatically proclaimed that it was blasphemy to suggest that Jesus was married. But he didn’t say why it would be blasphemous!

Is marriage immoral in the Catholic view? Wouldn’t that make God an accomplice in our immorality, since he gave the commandment? But the Catholic faith is family centered, so it cannot harbor such feelings, surely.

And Jesus called himself the Bridegroom! He couldn’t possibly do that if the institution of marriage was filthy. He would have found another metaphor.

Jesus likening himself by the bridegroom doesn’t mean that he was a bachelor on earth. No, it meant that he is faithful to the bride, the House of Israel, just as he expects her to be faithful to him (If there are any women preparing to actually marrying him, I’m afraid it is not going to happen)!

Jesus visited weddings, and made them more pleasant to attend. He would not do that if he would be against the institution as such.

But did he get married? We have no record telling us that he did. But sometimes we should look for what is not there, rather than for what is actually there.

At the time of Jesus it would have been absolutely astonishing if an influential Rabbi, such as Jesus, didn’t have a wife. It would be so strange that it would have been a part of the recorded history!

If he was married, that would not be written, since it would be like writing that he had fingers on his hands, or that he had legs. But if he was not married at the age of 30…

No, blasphemy is to suggest, or right-out say, that Jesus was promiscuous, or in any way breaking the law of chastity. Further, it would be blasphemy to suggest that Jesus, if he was married, did not have the sense and sensibility to know to keep his private life private.

Now, if Jesus in deed was married, we might get the answer to one interesting question: Why did Mary, the mother of Jesus, ask Jesus to save the wedding where the wine was running out? Why did Jesus take it upon himself to let this be the time to perform his first miracle? Unless Mary was in charge of this wedding, and the groom was no-one else than her son, the carpenter…

Christ Saved Jesus!

Ernie Fitzpatrick asked:

I know one will probably do a double-take on that title. Doesn’t Jesus have to come before Christ? Only if you are religious, yes. Christ was not Jesus’s last name. Christ was who-what Jesus became and that’s what you, I, and all of us are to become. Ernie, the Christ. You, the Christ. The mission of Jesus was to become the Christ and therefore show you and I the way!

Jesus could no more walk on water or do any of the myriad of miracles, than you or I without becoming ONE with the Father. It’s the testimony of Jesus, not my speculation now. How many times did Jesus say “I of my own self can do nothing”.  Jesus became consciously ONE with the Father and pleaded with us to do the same.

Jesus had his mind renewed, like you and I must, and as a result of becoming ONE with the Father, he transcended, overcame the curse of the law of gravity, cohesion, and adhesion, etc. This is the true reality and what it means to be BORN AGAIN! The religious “born again” pain free, simple, one time act of commitment is far from what Jesus was communicating with Zacheus.

We too must come down from “our tree” of intellectualization and mind games. As long as we remain in the “John Doe” consciousness, it will be impossble to “do all things”. As long as Jesus was in his “Jesus consciousness” he was limited as you and I. But once he saw, understood, and became the Christ consciousness, one with the Father, “ALL things are possible”.

When we finally awaken to our raison d’etre our world drastically changes. we move from a church-religious “sin management” paradigm to a life giving, Spirit directed and empowered status. Being “being” AS the Father is the goal. I cannot do it (much at all) with my Ernie consciousness, but with the “mind of Christ”, the Christ consciousness, the true reality of being born again, then, and only then are ALL THINGS POSSIBLE!

Jesus Was a Man (part 4)

Ernie Fitzpatrick asked:

Like you and I, Jesus was a product of the process of life. He had genes just like you and I! He was subject to the same environmental forces that we are. He grew weary and tired. When He was sad, He cried. Here’s how the church pictures Jesus, “The little Lord Jesus no crying He makes….” The truth is, that a better statement would be something like this, “Tears and smiles like us He knew.” It’s a truth that the world can relate!

Listen, to be a member humanity that I hail from (and you as well): to be a member of the species known as homo sapien sapien, means having the genes and chromosomes that have been shaped by natural causes for millions of years- if not tens, or hundreds of millions.

Hey, let me offend all the more!

You can’t pull a MAN (or woman) out of a hat like a magician would a rabbit. And especially if that man is to be a genuine man (flesh to redeem flesh), He can only come by the process that we do and have. (http://www.lrchouston.com)

While Matthew is only one of two people who speak of His virgin birth, Matthew also went to great lengths to show that “on the human level” Jesus was born of the stock of David.

The religious right misses this vital point.

Matthew went to great lengths to affirm Jesus at the level of humanity and at the level of the Spirit. The point of view of Jesus is not to be understood only on the Spirit level (virgin birth), but at the human level where we live (heredity and environment). And that’s what this series of commentaries are trying to build.

We’ll get to the “divinity part” later.

How to Pray to Jesus

September 26th, 2008 |
jesus
Robert asked:

e new to the Christian faith, you may be unsure about just how to pray to Jesus. The first thing you need to understand is the God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one person in the trinity. This means that if you pray to Jesus, you are also praying to your Heavenly Father who created you and the rest of the heavens and the earth. It is also important to understand that while Jesus was here on earth, he gave us a model for how to pray. While you don’t always have to adhere to this specific formula, it can help give you the words you are looking for, especially when you are new to the process of talking to God.

The Lord’s Prayer

When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray to God in the gospel of Matthew, Jesus taught them the Lord’s Prayer. While this prayer is regularly recited in many Christian churches today, you can also take the prayer and use it as a formula while you insert your own words. The first part of the prayer is to call on God, “Our Father who art in heaven.” The second part makes note of his holiness, “Hallowed be thy name.”

When we pray, “Your kingdom come,” we are acknowledging that one day, God’s kingdom will come to earth and Jesus will reign over all. “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” reminds us to ask God for His divine will to be done rather than our own. While we may think we know what we want or need in life, God has the ability to know what is really best for us. We need to trust Him and His divine purpose for our lives.

“Give us this day, our daily bread,” reminds us that we need to rely on God for all of our physical as well as our spiritual needs. “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors,” highlights the fact that God has forgiven us for our sins and we need to forgive others in the same manner. When you have trouble forgiving someone for something they have done to you, remember what Jesus had to endure to forgive both of you. Then ask God for help in forgiving.

“Lead us not into temptation,” means to ask God for strength and guidance to live the way He wants us to. The easiest way to stay out of trouble is to stay focused on God. “Deliver us from the evil one,” follows the temptation, because it is Satan who tries to tempt us away from our relationship with our Heavenly Father. God is the one who can always protect us from Satan’s evil plan.

“For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen!” What a wonderful way to end a prayer – by acknowledging God’s greatness once again and offering the praise that He desires and deserves! Praying to Jesus in no longer a mystery now that you know what he taught himself in the Bible about entering the throne room in prayer.

Is The Return Of Our Lord Jesus Near?

September 26th, 2008 |

Shawn Hickman asked:

In contrast to the rapture, the glorious appearing will be a spectacular event clearly visible to everyone on earth. Following the rapture and the seven-year tribulation, Christ will return with His church to establish His Millennial Kingdom. Jesus explicitly said so when the high priest asked Him to identify himself:

Then the high priest asked him, Are you the Messiah, the Son of the blessed God? Jesus said,I am, and you will see me, the Son of Man, sitting at Gods right hand in the place of power and coming back on the clouds of heaven. Mark 14:61-62 (NLT)

The response provided by Jesus caused the high priest to tear his own clothing in horror. Why? Because the high priest knew the implications of this statement. Jesus was not only claiming to be the Messiah, but was proclaiming Himself the equal of God. The Jewish Leaders were familiar with the Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah and His Kingdom. Jesus was directly referring to Psalm 110:

The Lord said to my Lord, Sit in honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet. The Lord will extend your powerful dominion from Jerusalem; you will rule over your enemies. In that day of battle, your people will serve you willingly. Arrayed in holy garments, your vigor will be renewed each day like the morning dew. The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow: You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek. The Lord stands at your right hand to protect you. He will strike down many kings in the day of his anger. He will punish the nations and fill them with their dead; he will shatter heads over the whole earth. But he himself will be refreshed from brooks along the way. He will be victorious.Psalm 110:1-7 (NLT)

This psalm is a clear reference to the glorious appearing of Christ, as He returns to earth to judge His enemies. In returning, He comes with His church to punish the nations and to set up His kingdom in victory.

In addition, when telling the high priest he would see the Son of Man coming back on the clouds of heaven, Jesus identified Himself as the eternal ruler spoken of by the prophet Daniel:

As my vision continued that night, I saw someone who looked like a man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, royal power over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed. Daniel 7:13-14 (NLT)

These passages illustrate the future return of Jesus Christ. This will not be an allegorical or spiritual return of mere symbolic significance. It will be a literal return to earth to judge those nations who have aligned against Him. The glorious appearing is characterized by its visibility. Every eye on earth will witness the return of Jesus Christ:

Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with great power and glory. And he will send forth his angels to gather together his chosen ones from all over the world from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. Mark 13:26-27 (NLT)

The glorious appearing will be seen by all, just as lightning covers the sky:

For as the lightning lights up the entire sky, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. Matthew 24:27 (NLT)

Those who anticipate the rapture will react to the Lords return with great celebration. But the glorious appearing will be accompanied by great mourning, for the majority of those who are left on earth at this time will be those who rejected Christ:

And then at last, the sign of the coming of the Son of Man will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the nations of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send forth his angels with the sound of a mighty trumpet blast, and they will gather together his chosen ones from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. Matthew 24:30-31 (NLT)

The Book of Revelation reiterates the sorrow of those who have rejected Him:

Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the earth will weep because of him. Yes! Amen! I am the Alpha and the Omega the beginning and the end, says the Lord God. I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come, the Almighty One. Revelation 1:7-8 (NLT)

The message is clear Jesus is coming! Therefore, we shouldnt live our lives in spiritual slumber. We need to wake up! Otherwise, His return will come upon us as unexpectedly as a thief in the night.

Our Conclusion

Our generation will surely see the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning Christs return, both the rapture and the glorious appearing. How do we know? Because Jesus tells us so. According to the Lord, the most important sign of the imminence of His return is when Israel becomes a nation once again:

I assure you, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will remain forever. Matthew 24:32-35 (NLT)

Jesus instructed his disciples to look for the signs of his coming. In rebuking the Pharisees and Sadducees, he said You are good at reading the weather signs in the sky, but you cant read the obvious signs of the time! Matthew 16:3 (NLT). He was admonishing the religious leaders of his day, and their inability to recognize the time of his coming as foretold in the Old Testament Messianic prophecies. Just as the people of that day refused to recognize the signs of the times, we too must be on guard at all times, watching for the signs of his coming. We should be living our lives as if Jesus Christ could return at any moment.

In preparation for His return, we should serve others, exhibit patience, love each other, pray, and eagerly await His coming, knowing full well we are redeemed by His love. Peter underscores the importance of love when he notes that the things of this world will soon pass away:

The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. 1 Peter 4:7-9 (NLT)

Peter also reminds us that we should be patient in awaiting Christs return:

But you must not forget, dear friends, that a day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isnt really being slow about his promise to return, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to perish, so he is giving more time for everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and everything in them will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be exposed to judgment. 2 Peter 3:8-10 (NLT)

Although we long for the Lords return, we must be patient. For His plan is to give ample time for all to come to know Him, so that not a single person will have to perish. We must also be patient with those who mock our belief that Christ will return, as they harbor their own belief that much time has passed (from a human perspective) since He first made His promise. Because they are not of the Spirit, the thought of the Lords return seems like mere foolishness to them. However, we shouldnt allow the naysayers of this world to corrupt us, because even this world recognizes our lives will pass from us in an instant. Instead, we should pray for everyone to come to full knowledge of Christ:

Since everything around us is going to melt away, what holy, godly lives you should be living! You should look forward to that day and hurry it along the day when God will set the heavens on fire and the elements will melt away in the flames. But we are looking forward to the new heavens and the new earth he has promised, a world where everyone is right with God. 2 Peter 3:11-13 (NLT)

The things of this world can be very distracting, but we must remain focused on the end goal. This world is only temporary, but God will create a paradise on earth that is everlasting and eternal. Therefore, we should set out to live godly lives in order to secure His promise for ourselves. For where our treasures are stored, there our minds and hearts will be also.

One of these treasures is exclusively reserved for those who eagerly await the return of Christ:

Be dressed for service and well prepared, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. There will be special favor for those who are ready and waiting for his return. I tell you, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, there will be special favor for his servants who are ready! Luke 12:35-38 (NLT)

The Lord promises to give each of us a special reward a crown for eagerly awaiting His return. Paul mentioned this crown in a letter to Timothy:

And now the prize awaits me the crown of righteousness that the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that great day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his glorious return. 2 Timothy 4:8 (NLT)

This crown is not just for Paul, but for all who love Christ and live their lives in anticipation of His return. By living our lives in hope of His imminent return, not only will we win the crown of righteousness, but we will live a more fruitful life on earth.

Those who believe the master will return at any moment remain faithful servants in charge of their masters estate, knowing that when He returns, He will be pleased to find them hard at work. Likewise, we should faithfully observe His commands to love our neighbors and to love our God with all our heart and mind and soul, knowing that when He returns, He will find us following Him in faithful devotion.

The True Test For Knowing If You Are In Christ Jesus

September 20th, 2008 |
jesus
Dana Smith asked:

Days Pass, The Lord Reigns Do you know the True test? Days Pass, The earth is in turmoi Thus, it is expected of you to know this. Days Pass, Once again I ‘am reminded, The Lord Omnipotent Reigneth. He rules in the heart of men. In the heart of those who have received His Love. So you have received, so ye must walk. This is the True Test, revealing you are in Christ. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

The true test for knowing that you are in Christ Jesus is not a mystery. As a matter of fact, 280 verses of scripture talk about the main ingredient to pass this test. So today, As you pass throughout the day, look to the Lord. You see, there are many troubling situations in the world today. Many reasons to fear. But we can have hope. The one who Loves us, rules in our hearts. We hold His Word as truth. We bear his name. He is coming for us, to redeem us from the world and its corruption. We were bought with a price. That price was the blood of His only Son, Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ in English). Moreover, as you walk the path of your destiny, listen to his voice. The sheep know the shepherd’s voice. Don’t let the world Drown out your inner listening post. Listen to his voice. Follow His Word. The test of all of the Lord’s Own is this: ” Keep the Commandments of the Lord” Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

John 14:15 ¶If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. 1 John 2:3 ¶And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

When we say commandments, many think of the law. This is not, I repeat not, what we are talking about. Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) said that “I came not to destroy the law, but fulfill it”. This fulfillment was the bringing in of the ‘Law of faith’. Whereby, men are saved by faith in the Name of Messiah Yeshua. The test, however, for knowing whether we truly Love the Lord is simply to keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous or hard to bear like the Old Testament law was. We are saved by faith, through Grace, not of ourselves. This is the Work of God. Your work is to believe on Messiah Yeshua and Him who sent the Savior. The fulfillment of the work we are to do is follow his commands. What are they? Which do we keep? The highest commandment, in which, all others are based. The true commandment that is the one you need to do and follow is this.

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Mark 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. John 14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence. John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Romans 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 2 Corinthians 8:8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. 1 John 3:23 ¶And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1 John 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. 2 John 1:5 ¶And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. 2 John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

We must walk in love. Allow God’s love for all people to flow through us. This means to love our God with all our hearts and our neighbor as our self. We are to love. Give to those who ask of us. Pray for those who despitefully use you (even though it hurts to do so). Love your enemies, do good to those who abuse you. Allow this love to flow as a river from the Lord through you to others. This Love is what God uses to bring people to him. He first Loved us, and redeemed us. It is this Love, Agape, a true, selfless love which reaches out to others.

As a true believer walking in love, we are also to reprove, rebuke, with all longsuffering. To put on the whole armor of God. To endure hardness (attacks against us) as a good soldier in Christ. To walk as a disciple through the turmoil of attacks, heartaches, persecutions, and endure all for the Lords’ sake. To walk this path is not easy in your self. You must reach out to him. He will work in you, empower you, transform you. He can do this only if you allow him. He will not force himself on you.

Thus the true test for really knowing if you are a disciple or not is this. I am I walking in Love as Christ would have me to do. This could mean praying for that neighbor who abuses you and causes you trouble. Being nice to him or her no matter what. Enduring what trouble he or she causes you in the daily grind of life. Putting up with that character at the office, who is always bringing you trouble. This is letting the face of Christ Shine through. This does not mean, however, you have to put up with godless ways and practices. It does not mean you have to put up with the porno movies or other things that people want you to do. It means being a believer who walks in love, and keeping one self unspotted from the worlds lusts.

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Test yourself today and see if you really are walking in love. Don’t follow the path many church members take today. They go to church regularly. They are busy for the Lord. But they cannot get passed their own denomination’s rules, regulations, and traditions to really love someone of another church. Many church members don’t even visit those who come to the church. They are distant, righteously going to church, but sadly lacking in the basic love rule of compassion. It is a compassion that drives people together in the Lord. To help those who need it. To bring a message of hope or a message of rebuke as the Word of the Lord dictates. We can stand on the Word of God, being separate from the things that defile us and still walk in love. Remember the old Christian adage “I love the sinner, but not the sin”. This is the truth. We can love that person, no matter what they do. We can disagree with them. We can shake our heads at their actions. We can tell them their actions are wrong according to scripture. We cannot, however, hate them. We cannot follow jealousy, pride, hate, separation, and spread lies. We must walk in love.

This is the true test. When Christ Jesus, (Messiah Yeshua) comes, the first thing he will ask is this. Do you love me? Then why did you not keep my commandments? The one which all commandments hang is this. To walk in Love. Why did you not walk in Love? You say you have faith. You cannot have faith without Love. For faith is the outcome of love. Out of love proceeds actions by faith to help others, love thy God, and follow his ways. Why did you not Love, as I have Loved you?

John 21:15 ¶So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. 1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Take time today to start this path. Walk in love today. Make a difference. It is a standard by which the Lord expects us to walk. It is a directive of his. Ours is to Love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, and soul. This Love, so strong, will then carry us to love our neighbors as ourselves. I hope you will proceed directly to do this. God speed on your quest. Love, this is the True Test to really know that you are in Christ Jesus. Have you passed this test?
